I understand the vehicle making noise, especially when reversing. And not that its a valid excuse but, in the area I live and from my experiences, nobody cares if the vehicle is making noise. Just about everyone has no sense of awareness and will walk into traffic without even checking, doesn't seem to matter how much or little noise the vehicle makes. I would even be happy with being able to change it for something less abrasive as the sound it generates is like nails on a chalkboard to me. I also feel its on more than it needs to be as it almost never turns off in city driving. It clicks off somewhere in the neighborhood of 22mph, which is needlessly late. I can hear the tire noise of vehicles doing half that speed from much further away and the tire noise all but muffles the generated noise for everyone but the occupants of my vehicle.
