Bjorn Nyland shared a video today where he says Toyota reached out to him about an upcoming software update for the bZ4X that's coming in May.
Well, someone on that Bz4X phone line seemed to think my car may have it because it pops up alerts when the car is below 30% SoC. However she read off what else was in that particular update, and I don't think it included some of the other changes that are supposed to be included in this May update. I heard rumors that the driver display may only show percent SoC below 30%, and mine does not do so. I doubt the update that added those pop up warnings is the much anticipated May update. She also couldn't give me any way to verify what updates the car has or had not gotten. I will probably call the hotline again tomorrow, because I am not in the mood to drive the amount needed to see if it still throttles fast charging after 2 cycles per 24 hours, without more verification that it has been updated.do you know if anyone has received the update call the 800 number you suggested they are clueless for the most part. I’m just curious of anyone that has received the update. Thanks, Bama Jim
Thanks for your reply Kat and I was told the same as youWell, someone on that Bz4X phone line seemed to think my car may have it because it pops up alerts when the car is below 30% SoC. ThanksFor a software update scheduled for “sometime in May”, very few (if any, so far) seem to know anything definitive about it.
After working my career in the automation/IT world, I’ve learned this…
Until something is actually released and installed (verified installation, not just rumored)… it’s just “vapor- ware”.
It's defnitely not vaporware, Bjorn Nyland just published 4 videos in the last 24 hours testing the new software. Granted he's in Norway but the software does exist and so far seems to provide some nice improvements. Hopefully we get this sooner than later in North America. For a software update scheduled for “sometime in May”, very few (if any, so far) seem to know anything definitive about it.

Sure, the European version isn't vaporware. However, I have a US AWD Bz4X, with the slower CATL battery. I don't know how much thst changes the programming parameters. There's obviously something different about what we are getting here compared to Europe, since dealership service departments are doing the updates over there and have said it's too large to do OTA, and yet what we are supposed to get is OTA. So I won't believe in this update until someone here in the US gets it, and can confirm at least some of what it can do. But I've become very jaded from prior experience with Toyota and this car, so I may be overly pessimistic. It's defnitely not vaporware, Bjorn Nyland just published 4 videos in the last 24 hours testing the new software. See post #19. New delivery that appears to be north america and with new software. I have the same car as you (in Canada) and need to bring it in the dealer for it's 8,000km service. I will ask if they know anything about this update.Sure, the European version isn't vaporware. However, I have a US AWD Bz4X, with the slower CATL battery. Welcome to the forum @Phil! keep us posted if you hear anything from your dealer. Overall how has your bZ4X treated you?See post #19. Based on other posts from that user, they are in Cyprus. Not North America.See post #19. New delivery that appears to be north america and with new software. Exactly. Asking front-line company employees for information about something that hasn't been publicly released (at least not yet in the US) will either get you incorrect information or frustrated.Until something is actually released and installed (verified installation, not just rumored)… it’s just “vapor- ware”.

It would good to see US bZ4Xs delivered with the updated software. The newest I saw browsing cars.com were units produced in April and no tell-tale percentage on the display.
It looks like Toyota wants to discourage buyers from going full electric with the lack of information and updates here in the US. What a big fiasco. Makes me want to trade-in my BZ4X for a Kia instead.Exactly. It will be interesting what the cars will go for on the used market over the next few years. 😞It looks like Toyota wants to discourage buyers from going full electric with the lack of information and updates here in the US. What a big fiasco. Makes me want to trade-in my BZ4X for a Kia instead.

Thanks for the warm welcome! Other than the range being a bit dissapointing I like the car a lot. I don't do many road trips, I have another (ICE) car and charge 99% of the time at home so for me it's not an issue. The AWD is absolutely awesome in the snow.Welcome to the forum @Phil! keep us posted if you hear anything from your dealer. Overall how has your bZ4X treated you?
