Bjorn Nyland shared a video today where he says Toyota reached out to him about an upcoming software update for the bZ4X that's coming in May.
Do you have the software update ID or number?
They didn't supply me with one. And so far, i don't have mine updated. I'll keep you posted if i see something before everyone else.... And i'm betting Nic, was OUT OF THE USA. therefore his is likely different.Do you have the software update ID or number?

This great to hear another confirmation! Thanks for posting the Bz4X hotline elsewhere in these forums. I don't think Toyota has ever given that to me despite my attempts to address the 2 DC fast charges per day issue. I called and was told that yes, and over the air update is coming and should automatically happen. No, there isn't anything I can do (like get it on my home wifi since I live in the country and cell signal is flaky, and it's under a metal roof) to improve the odds of it happening soon. I can call the dealership to see if they can help me get the update, but she couldn't confirm if they would have it or not. The car won't tell me it has an update. It just should happen, and then the display will look a bit different. So, I guess I keep waiting. And I will probably stick it on wifi at home in case that helps.
That's why I have been keeping an eye out for anything official on this update. We ran into it blindly, and accidentally found out just how bad it could be. Right now, I can "pour in" about 110-115 kWh of power before hitting the limit, which is about how much it takes to charge from 5% to 80% twice. It doesn't matter if it's 2 charging stops or a bunch of shorter charging stops. At 3.8 times, that's more like 210 kWh. Beyond that threshold, charging rates throttle, they way they do when you hit 80% on a fast charger. Bjorn saw it throttle to 40 kW, but on the North American AWD Bz4X, it is more like 13 kW and slower. As it is, I have had to keep my 13 year old Prius with almost 200,000 miles as my back up road trip car in case my parents in Ohio have a medical emergency bad enough thsy I need to drive there ASAP. I knew the Bz4X would be slower for road trips, and it was never intended to be first choice for road tripping, but I had hoped it would be feasible if it's the only car I have available. I wasn't expecting this slow when I bought the car. The update will mostly cover the distance, at least in good weather, but I need to map and do the math to be more certain of what to expect.PS: this UPDATE, will update that 2 DC fast charges to (about 4, which is odd, its something like 3.88/day now... ha ha... what?! what is that supposed to mean, it stops charging half way through a 4th charge? duh... I guess its possible on a long trip you could do a SHORT DC charge from say 60 to 80% and that goes against the total countha!)
Just spoke to my local dealer about this update. he said it's HUGE (in terms of download size) and doesn't expect it to come through OTA, i asked even if i was connected to fibre wifi and he said still it wouldn't happen. so the only option is to bring it back to the dealer for a few hours. the DC 2x per day issue is part of it but does anyone know if the car will have improved DC charging speeds? so disappointed to hear that every other EV will get 130KW if they plug in to a 130KW charger but the bz4x might get 40 or might get 50 depending on what mood the car is in. potentially a show-stopper for me like so many other people online have complained about, since we do 4-500km family trips fairly regularly and if it adds 2 hours of sitting around waiting for the car to charge, it's not going to work for us. i have the FWD version that is advertised at supporting 150KW DC charging. and i live in ireland which doesn't get too cold.
Ya NOPE! I sat at my dealership for 6 hours yesterday! They do NOT have access to the update, they spoke with corporate and they told them the same thing, that it would be OTA… the dealerships should have revceived a letter explaining this and that they would not need to do anything!Just spoke to my local dealer about this update. he said it's HUGE (in terms of download size) and doesn't expect it to come through OTA, i asked even if i was connected to fibre wifi and he said still it wouldn't happen. so the only option is to bring it back to the dealer for a few hours. the DC 2x per day issue is part of it but does anyone know if the car will have improved DC charging speeds? so disappointed to hear that every other EV will get 130KW if they plug in to a 130KW charger but the bz4x might get 40 or might get 50 depending on what mood the car is in. potentially a show-stopper for me like so many other people online have complained about, since we do 4-500km family trips fairly regularly and if it adds 2 hours of sitting around waiting for the car to charge, it's not going to work for us. i have the FWD version that is advertised at supporting 150KW DC charging. and i live in ireland which doesn't get too cold.
As of the DC charging speeds, yes, it will improve especially above 80%.Just spoke to my local dealer about this update. he said it's HUGE (in terms of download size) and doesn't expect it to come through OTA, i asked even if i was connected to fibre wifi and he said still it wouldn't happen. so the only option is to bring it back to the dealer for a few hours. the DC 2x per day issue is part of it but does anyone know if the car will have improved DC charging speeds? so disappointed to hear that every other EV will get 130KW if they plug in to a 130KW charger but the bz4x might get 40 or might get 50 depending on what mood the car is in. potentially a show-stopper for me like so many other people online have complained about, since we do 4-500km family trips fairly regularly and if it adds 2 hours of sitting around waiting for the car to charge, it's not going to work for us. i have the FWD version that is advertised at supporting 150KW DC charging. and i live in ireland which doesn't get too cold.
Where are you located? I can understand waiting for an order if you are in Hawaii, but if you aren't there, why haven't you looked around at other dealerships? There are so many options out there and many of them are at MSRP... i have even started seeing some now BELOW MSRP.It will be exactly one year on June 6th that I placed my order for the FWD, with winter package in Heavy Mental.
Upstate New York. 2 hours south of Albany.Where are you located? Curious.
Ya, on the east coast, that is an issue trying to find a FWD. still though, i'd think by now something would be available. good luck.Upstate New York. 2 hours south of Albany.
This should not be this hard. I looked at other dealers up to 100 miles away on my own. They all receive AWD models. I'm looking for FWD for the better range and faster charging battery (150kw vs 100). My dealer just told me that they will try looking for me to swap with other dealers upto 500 miles away.
OK, update to all the chatter about the UPDATE... holy cow...
So, first, bottom line, Toyota USA doesn't have their act together with the OTA. Yes, it has been confirmed that it is an actual OTA update and that the dealerships are simply notified that it is there and that it will be OTA and they are not to need to do anything!
At current moment, dealerships can't even see the update or info about it.
So, because the cooperate call center people are still falling back on their typical responses "oh, you need to go to the dealership and ask them, then they will reach out to reginal and then tech department if needed"
If we are going get them to change their SCRIPT, everyone in the US that actually wants to see improvement to their car and get this major update, will need to call and complain to the bZ4X hotline (not brand engagement, they are even more clueless). Call 1-800-331-4331 option 3.
Tell them you know that a new major update for the car is avaialbe and that it has been pushed to the cloud for an OTA update, but the download to your car is NOT happening. Tell them you also know this push to the cloud happened on 5/11 (and we are still waiting)....
Good luck... report back here and let us know if you get told a different story... ha hah... (by the way, it has been confirmed by my dealership and myself and at least one other person for a total of at least 4-5 different people telling us this update is there and should be updating our cars).
