Toyota USA will let you pre-order or reserve the bZ4X soon, months ahead of when the electric SUV arrives in local dealers around mid-2022. A $500 refundable reservation deposit will be required. Your Toyota dealer will contact you to confirm your order after going through the initial phase. The Toyota dealer assigned to you will be based on your Zip Code or the Zip Code of the dealership you are purchasing from.

It's pretty safe to assume that is for the domestic market (Japan), since we were told exports would be the focus initially. Also, we already know the Subaru variant will be allocated more than for the first year. Unfortunately, there will still be a long wait-list regardless of how many are produced.

I called two dealership in the Chicago area and they both said they won't see this model until 2023. They said it might just be like RAV4 Prime which each dealer only received one of. Also did not know anything about pre-order, advised me this is not something Toyota does. I hope they are wrong... was seriously forward to this one.

I submitted a pre-order for my 2001 (gen-1 Prius rollout), my 2004 (gen-2 Prius rollout), and my 2010 (gen-3 Prius rollout). Toyota has a long history already of having done that. More recently, with bZ4X itself there have been pre-orders placed in the UK and Ireland. Delivery wait will be loooooong regardless of what any particular dealer claims. Flooding the market with volume in the first year is simply not the way Toyota operates. They focus on quality and make sure resources are available for those initial owners.

Thank you, that is encouraging to hear. I will sit tight and keep my ears open, already have the funds set aside for pre-order. Hopefully it is online so I do not have to deal with "Dealers", just another thing in Illinois that is corrupt. Not surprised.

Good luck. I'm in Minnesota and well experienced with the waits. My more recent was the PHV model of Prius in 2012, where I ordered in from a fleet-manager in LA and managed to be among the first 21 vehicles delivered to the United States (which was then shipped via a service I hired). That kind of luck won't happen again. The upgrade to my Prius Prime in 2017 wasn't too bad though. I was able to just put in a regular order and wait for local delivery. After a few months, I got a notify of production with an expected shipping date. Who knows what will happen this time. Fortunately, it is easy to see that patience will pay off.

It's curious to me that the cost to submit a preorder is $500, double the lump sum payment of $250 to get on the reserve list for the Subaru Solterra. Subaru's preorder program, now closed, is managed by the manufacturer, not the dealer. I doubt being on the list for either/both program(s) will reduce the wait to take delivery.

What spec @puravidabruce bZ4X did you go with?
I wonder if that higher deposit is based on demand. It should help them weed out more people that will back out at the last minute. Toyota knows they'll be overwhelmed with pre-orders. Subaru on the other hand won't, at least not nearly as much.

In my case, the Toyota dealer has a list of folks who are committed to buying a BZ4X. I'm on that list
by pre-committing to a one-time $500 deposit using my provided info including credit card numbers.

I just found a Europe Toyota Site that is officially taking Pre-orders. BZ4X I'm hoping that Toyota USA does this! I don't live in a ZEV state, so my dealerships here told me they aren't even being allocated any of them! Therefore, i'm sorry to tell you Minnesota and Illinois is also not a ZEV state and will not be initially allocated any!
So, I called a few dealerships in California (being that is one of the 12 ZEV states and i live close to there). One dealership, the largest in the nation, Longo Toyota, told me they won't sell to me because i'm out of state! They said they have 150 people on the wait list. I called another dealership more north, because I have family there, and they said they would sell to me but they are currently tacking on $5k to the RAV4 Prime and bZ4x. I told them I won't buy from them if they are going to pull that crap. I have found other dealerships that have stated on their web-site they refuse to mark them above MSRP.
I may contact Longo again and find out if they are doing the same thing and marking them above MSRP. If it comes to it, I'll have my family members purchase the car for me and I'll pay them back, if more of these dealerships won't sell out of state!
Either, way, I'm hoping that Toyota will do their pre-order site and i can pick the Zip code i want to buy from... maybe that will prioritize who gets them first? OR will the dealership over-ride it and say, well we have a long list of people before these! I hope Toyota takes some control and also slaps these dealerships down for marking them above MSRP.
Pricing is another issue. Its hard to gauge! a UK site states the top level version is 51,447 Pounds (roughly $67k USD) and the Europe site mentioned above says the top level is 54,500 EURO (roughly $59k) That's a big difference in USD between Pounds and EURO... and I sure HOPE that doesn't equate to what it will be here in the US! Then i comes down to WHY would I buy one? Since Toyota is too new to the game. If i'm gonna throw down $60k there are better options! Sad Day!

UK prices are quoted with tax included, so prices will naturally be higher.
bZ4X prices in Europe are being released now. For the Netherlands, the high-end model (Premium AWD) is €48,024.79 which at current exchange-rate is $52,414.50. For the base model (Active), it is €38,933.88 which is $42,292.63.

DANG IT!! 😁 I've been trying get Utah on board! grrr! They are all so annoyed with the Haze (SMOG) issues in the valleys here but they don't seem to do anything about it! They sit around and create committee after committee and they've been discussion crap for years... this is an obvious one they need to kick in to place here! duh! no brainer.

Of course, the important part is what you don't see. VW is likely just barely squeezing out profit, if at all yet. Toyota has lots of experience building EV components, putting them in a better position to make sales more favorable with regard to dealership interest.
4X will still be a challenge to break the status quo. Education about how plug-in vehicles work and charging remains a big barrier still. So even with decent prices, it's will remain an uphill battle for years.
There's the shortcomings of infrastructure impeding progress too.

Update: Spoke with one of the dealerships in LA. Apparently they are clueless. They said they aren't taking any deposits because the don't think they will see them until January or February 2023. I laughed and said, well that must mean you aren't being allocated any!.... So, the hunt is on to a dealership that actually gets some allocation!
Anyone here have an Idea who that might be (in California)? I'm betting Longo Toyota is one of them, but there has to be more! Any help?
