android auto only works via wired and then has to be the via the USB connection in the QI charging hub. Does NOT work when connecting to the other charging ports.

You will also need to then go into options and connectivity and activate android auto for connected phone samsung xyz

I'm also finding the wired connection is very unreliable and is frequently dropping out. Are you?

My phone also doesn't fit in the charging tray with the cable connected to it.

I'm hoping a different cable solves the connection issues when I get back to the car in a few days.

I have not tried the wired connection yet. Will try during next week. I have a Samsung Galaxy S10+ and having the same problem with the charging tray when the cable is connected to the phone.

I have learned from other Toyota boards that you need to have a HIGH quality USB cord so it will stop dropping. (typically the cord that comes with the phone should be fine, but if it is old and beat up, then it won't work). Look for something that can transfer data at higher speeds.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and it works very well using wireless Android Auto with our bZ4X. I haven't tried wired Android Auto though using my Note 20 but only tried Apple CarPlay using an iPhone X (which also works wirelessly).

I believe the UK system only supports wired, and the manual indicates this as well. How strange.

Even wired android auto is acceptable due to various operating systems. But selecting Bluetooth every time you disconnect your android auto "cable" is an obsolete technology and very painful. One has to remember as the phone does not connected automatically to Bluetooth.

Oh, I'm in the US. I didn't realize that the question was for the UK system. :(
When I started this tread I did not had any peticular country i mind. I think it is good to know how this work all over the globe. Since you can use it wireless with your Samsung phone gives me hope that it soon will be possible here in Norway/Europe as well.

Hey @G-K, did you recently take delivery of your bZ4X? Or did you have it before the recall and had to park it?

It's an international forum 🙂.

Used a new cable coming back from Heathrow and it was still dropping out constantly. Audio over Bluetooth still sounded good and I don't mind the built-in sat nav, even with the directions being spoken by two different ladies!

I'll play around at the weekend and hope it isn't a usb port issue.

I have tried with a Samsung cable and it works fine, but I hope we soon can use the wireless solution instead of the cable. Then we can have the phone in the wireless charge tray.

Hi everyone, I took ownership of bz4x a couple days ago and managed to get the wireless android auto to work after an hour. It worked fine plugged in but was annoying as phone didn't fit in the compartment. Anyways, what I did to fix it was uninstall android auto, power cycle, then reinstall it again. Next, turn on vehicle, plug phone into the android auto port, making sure Bluetooth is connected, then screen will pop up with android auto prompting you to hit next. Afterwards, it should loads up as usual. Finally, unplug phone, turn vehicle off and on and it will connect wirelessly.
Pixel 7, with AA version 8.8.630424. If this doesn't work, I recommend changing the cable then repeating those steps. I did change the cable to a newer one when I was finally successful but am not sure whether that had any affect.

Good luck fellow owners!

I'm using Google Pixel 7, with AA version 8.8.630424. My wife is using Samsung S8 same AA version, she's using my profile with her phone as a secondary device.

I am unable to create a profile just for her, as we only have 1 key fob at the moment.

Where do I begin? I am frustrated that I can not get the system to work consistently.

Bottom line is that it works without connecting via USB. (Perfectly... 60% of the time)

There are times when:
  1. It detects your Driver profile but not your Android Auto App. Only the Toyota app and phone system is connected.
  2. All is connected and Android Auto and Toyota app. Works great! Perfect.
  3. Does not detect your profile. Assigns the guest profile. Does not detect Android Auto. Despite phone indicating blutooth has successfully connected.
  4. Android App connected successfully. Toyota app connected successfully. But your in/out calls ... the car speaker does not work and you have to fumble with your phone to put it on speaker phone. Frustrating.

I end up with one of these 4 scenarios. If anyone has an idea what I can do better. Please let me know.

Connecting via usb works 100% of the time. But as others have mentioned the cable does not neatly fit the holder.

That sounds annoying. I'm wondering, were you able to add a 2nd profile that isn't a guest? Anyways, if you want a wireless solution that works as good as the plug in, I would suggest one of those wireless android auto dongles. Would cost some money, and that front pocket would no longer be usable, but should solve your issues until Toyota gets their stuff updated.
