I just heard from my dealer that i can only order the AWD version even though i want the most range (252) that comes with the FWD. Is anyone else aware of this for those who live in cold climates? FWD is only being sold in California I was told.

Looking at the Redit spreadsheet breakdown, the only two states that have FWD are California and Maryland. Maryland only has a few with California having the lions share of them.

California has gotten all of the FWD allocations from 5/25 until now.

Yep, I was by local dealer told AWD only in Northeast until they are in high volume a year or so from now. I guess we need to see once the dust settles what the actual charging curves and ranges these end up having, but I'd very much prefer FWD. I guess there are always other options that actually let me the buyer decide what I want, not what Toyota feels I should want..
Update. i sat down with my dealer in upstate New York today and he was talking to his regional manager. He said he can get me a fwd model but it might take a couple of months. He took my specs, color and a refundable deposit of $500. Let’s see what happens. He was confident that I would get the model I want.
weird, mine just says there is a month long delay in general and no FWD have been allocated to NE

I thought that was strange too. But lets see. I'll ping him in August if I don't hear from him then. I remember when I ordered my 2010 Prius with the tech package. I had to wait about 6 months back then. And my first prius in 2001 took about 3 months too. So I'm uses to waiting.

I wanted the bz4x FWD with the winter package in heavy metal. so maybe that is a special order?
