Just a caveat that the battery percentage is a few points off.. I'm guessing because Toyota doesn't actually report the battery data to the user. Other car scanner apps had similiar issues on this vehicle but its close enough to be useful now. I found it to under estimate the remaining battery by about 2%.
A Better RoutePlanner (iOS and Android charging station route planning application) added support for OBD II data in its real-time range computation for the bZ4X and Solterra (for use while driving).
Maybe it is, if what they wanted to know was that A Better Routeplanner can now use a cheap BlueTooth dongle to talk directly to their car and use the real-time data from their car to improve the range estimate and charging station suggestions as they proceed on their trip.
Less technical, but still useful for the non-tech person.
OBD (actually, OBD II) is On Board Diagnostics. In this case, it means that little connector under the dash on the bZ4X/Solterra used to diagnose problems. That’s where the BlueTooth dongle is plugged in to make this work.
Thanks, that is helpful for my understanding of the subject and provides enough context for me to appreciate the possibilities. Without question, EV's are a whole different beast. Our bZ4x is a 2nd car we use locally, charge at home with solar panels so range hasn't been an issue. So far, with 4,350 miles, we haven't been within 100 miles of empty or charged anywhere other than home. Sadly, my collection of other vehicles still suck gasoline with reckless disregard for the future.
